Tough first game in RL3

Devizes' first game in Regional League 3 may prove to be their toughest in the league all season as they travelled to Taunton for their first Netball South West Regional 3 game against an experienced Trident side, which had only just missed out on promotion to Regional League 2 at the end of last season. Missing inspirational caption Becki Gaiger the squad was led by Vice Captain Vicki Sim.
Both sides had first game nerves and made unforced errors at the start of the game and the young shooting pairing of Hannah Sedgwick and 16 year old Emily Buller worked hard to give themselves opportunities on goal under pressure from the physical defence. Devizes focussed on controlling their play and applying pressure to the more experienced side whose goal shooter was in exceptional form. Coach Nikki Lloyd rang the changes at half time bringing on all three substitutes but Devizes were unable to stop the flow Trident had built up despite some solid performances in defence, particularly from Jilly Raw in her debut appearance for the Moonraker team.
Despite the full time score of 50-26 to Trident, Devizes had some promising periods of play and the match provided plenty for this young squad to build on. Devizes play their first home game versus local rivals Team Bath on Sunday 29th September at Melksham Oak Community School.
