Team 1 Match Report:

Devizes Regional team welcomed league newcomers Mavericks from nearby Bristol to Melksham hoping to bring to an end a 4 game losing streak in which coach Nikki Lloyd’s side had played some excellent netball against some of the league’s front runners, but weren’t able to get a result.

With several squad members available again after recent absences the hosts got off to a blistering start with the pace of the game catching the visitors off guard quickly pulled out an 8 goal lead with relentless defending gaining possession and some slick through court play giving the Devizes shooters plenty of opportunity to score. No changes were made at quarter time, however Mavericks had re-grouped and came out strongly scoring the first 4 goals of the quarter. The hosts were slow to respond and were struggling to find the space in the attacking end which had been easy to find in the 1st quarter.

An injury time out to skipper Becki Gaiger, allowed Kit Dillon to enter the game at WA and immediately she was able to penetrate the Mavericks defence off the hosts centre pass. Opportunities to score were free flowing for the home side but both young shooters were having a tough period in converting these opportunities, keeping Mavericks in the game.

At half time Steph Bridewell came on to WD to bring fresh legs and some height to the defensive line, with a switch in the attacking unit, with Becki Gaiger moving to GA, Kit Dillon to C and Abbie Colemen making her 2nd appearance at WA.

The 3rd quarter was a more consistent quarter with Devizes turning over plenty of Mavericks possession but with the visitors shooting more accurately and with the home side still inconsistent under goal keeping the pressure on. A tight final quarter followed with plenty of errors occurring for both sides, however the strong start to the game meant Devizes had done enough to secure a 46-41 victory. Coach Nikki Lloyd was delighted with the 81 attempts at goal, proving the possession being created in previous games was now making through to the attacking end which has been an area being worked on in training. More consistency under goal which we have seen in previous games will in no doubt ensure further victories are forthcoming. Player of the match, captain Becki Gaiger.

Team 2 Match Report:

Team 2 played Holt Blue on Tuesday 4th November.  Holt started strong as expected and finished the first quarter 2 goals ahead.  Devizes also settled quickly with a stable shooting rhythm, strong defence and good mid court links.

Devizes 2 started the second quater with strength and confidence, again converting goals from turn overs and a strong mid court flow.  Quarter 3 finished with Devizes pulling ahead by 3 goals.

Quarter 3 saw Devizes settle into more confident play despite making some mistakes and losing too many balls to simple ball placement errors, despite this, Team 2 kept their heads and pulled ahead once again to finish the quarter 6 goals ahead.

Quarter 4 saw Holt come out strong and steady, scoring the first 4 goals of the final quarter.  Both teams were playing for a win but Devizes kept their heads and managed to convert their centre passes, keeping them just ahead as the final whistle approached.

Well deserved POM Steph Bridewell.

Final Score Devizes 38 Holt 34.

Tonight Team 3 play Holt White and Jax 1 play TC Smashers.....
