Regional Team Off To a Flying Start

Final score 33-32 to Devizes!!
Devizes started their first game of the new season v newcomers Poole strongly and with some smooth attacking play and clinical goal scoring and solid defence creating turnover raced to a 6-0 lead. Poole responded well and with some lapses in concentration and lack of movement reduced the lead to one goal at quarter time. Debutant Laura Vickery came onto GD with Ellie Papps moving to WD and with 17 year old Izzy Jaggs making her debut and the returning kit Dillon finding more space in attack the changes had instant impact creating turnover for the Attack to convert & pulling out a 4 goal lead at half time.
GS Emily Buller entered the game for the quarter with Hannah Sedgwick moving to WA to give Izzy a breather on her debut. Unfortunately illness to Buller meant coach Nikki Lloyd was forced into early changes with Sedgwick and Jaggs returning to their starting roles of GS and WA respectively. Strong pressure from the away side along with lack of movement from Devizes meant a low scoring quarter ended with Poole winning it 7-6.
With a narrow 3 goal lead going into the last quarter, fitness began to play a part and some individual handling and passing errors put the home side under pressure and despite pulling out to a 5 goal lead during the quarter Poole were relentless and pulled back to within 2 with a minute to goal resulting in a pulsating and nerve racking finish to the game. Devizes dug in and their experience from last season and continued resilient meant they won 33-32. Player of the match becki Gaiger.
