Devizes faced arch rivals Abbeymeads in the second round of the South West Invitational League last week - the two teams have met in the Wiltshire county playoff for the last two years, with the Swindon team taking the honours each time.Devizes started the match slowly, conceding four goals in the first few minutes and a lacklustre first quarter ended in a nine goal deficit for the Moonraker champions. However, strong words at quarter time proved effective and a refocussed seven drew the second quarter. Changes at half time didn't disrupt Devizes' recovery, with outstanding performances from captain Becki Gaiger, Sophie Parsons and Lou Pfeil inspiring Devizes to win the second half of the game. The final score of 41-33 is the closest result to date against the Swindon champions, and Devizes' performance sets up an intriguing prospect for the return match in the New Year.
